C.M.S 200th Anniversary Celebrations

Founded in 1799, the Church Missionary Society (CMS) sought to bring about social reform through evangelization across Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean.
The advent of the CMS in Sri Lanka 200 years ago, in 1818, marked a significant period of development in the country’s education system, and many of the educational institutes it established still remain today.
In celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the founding, Ladies’ College hosted the 4 CMS schools namely Hillwood College and Mowbray College from Kandy and Chundikulli Girls’ School and St. John’s College Jaffna to a weekend of fun and fellowship.
The celebrations began with a fun-filled bonfire, organized by the prefects of Ladies’ College to welcome the students and teachers from Hillwood College, Mowbray College and Chundikulli Girls School.
They were joined the following day by the boys of St. John’s College Jaffna to participate in a series of events including a netball match between the 4 girls’ schools and a chess match between Ladies’ College and St John’s College.
The day ended with a combined concert by the dance troupes and choirs of all schools, and dinner at the hostel grounds. The celebrations concluded with a triangular service of thanksgiving at the chapel of the Hope of the World.
This year’s celebrations served as a reminder of all Ladies’ College has stood for and will continue to stand for in the years to come.
