The Kindergarten was built in 1918 by Ms Opie and renovated and re-organized by Ms Simon. The Kindergarten houses grades 1-3. There are 30 children and two teachers to each class. There are two streams both Sinhala and Tamil. In the Kindergarten formal skills training begins.
IT and project-based learning enhances the national curriculum stipulated by the Education Ministry and the setting moves from the play space to a Children’s museum setting. The co-curricular activities of the Kindergarten include swimming, an annual theme and a science theme. The students and teachers research the topic together and present their research using aesthetic learning tools of songs, dance, music and drama.
Both the KG and Nursery sections celebrate Founders Day, and Easter with parties and services. The blessing of Christian Grade 1 students, the Harvest Festival and Nativity Service in the chapel are also dates in the Nursery and KG annual calendar.
The annual theme, the science theme and book day are all experiences in learning and is continued during the whole year as co-curricular learning. It continues in the fancy races at the sports meet and, in the creative models at the exhibition in the third term. Learning is enhanced when different learning tools are used for the purpose. The children have a great deal of fun in the process.
