The first school hall was built by Ms Nixon in 1911 soon after moving to the Fernery. While classrooms came up, the lack of an assembly hall for the increasing numbers of students became very apparent.
After a great deal of planning and of conserving slowly gathered resources, it was decided to embark on building a hall which Miss Simon insisted must also be a first-class concert hall for musical performances of the highest calibre.
1955 saw the completion of what soon became both a modern school assembly hall of its time and a concert hall with excellent acoustics used by visiting artists from all over the world for their performances.
The hall was re-named Mabel Simon Hall in 2008. It was however built primarily for the children of the school and it remains so even to this date.
The hall accommodates 1300 students at any one time which is important for the Wednesday morning Assembly accommodating all but the Primary school.
The hall built in the centre of the school has been the centre of the co and extra-curricular activities of the school and a valuable means of developing the talents of the children, encouraging them to get on to the stage and gain confidence, may it be debating, oratory, music, drama or dance.
